Sixties Surreal is an ambitious reappraisal of American art from 1958 to 1972, encompassing the work of more than one hundred artists. This revisionist survey looks beyond now canonical movements to focus instead on a powerful yet often overlooked current of the era—psychosexual intensity, fantastical imagery, and revolutionary spirit, all shaped by the enduring influence of Surrealism and its widespread impact. The exhibition gathers a range of works by artists Diane ArbusLee BontecouFranklin WilliamsNancy GrossmanDavid Hammons, Linda Lomahaftewa, Mel CasasYayoi KusamaRomare Bearden, and Louise Bourgeois, among others.
