Anthology Film Archives, 32 Second Avenue
In conjunction with Rituals of Rented Island: Object Theater, Loft Performance, and the New Psychodrama—Manhattan, 1970–1980, join us at Anthology Film Archives for a film series co-curated by J. Hoberman, Andrew Lampert, and Whitney curator Jay Sanders. Program 7 features work by Robert Wilson.
Rituals of Rented Island focuses on a number of performance artists whose shows were staged in lofts, storefronts, artist spaces, music clubs, and venues such as The Kitchen and Anthology in the 1970s. This linked screening series includes videos, films, and documentation from artists of the era and features many pieces not on view in the exhibition. In addition to the artists and works in these 13 shows, selections of recently preserved short films by performance artist Stuart Sherman will be screened at the beginning of various programs.
Special thanks to Anthology Film Archives, Andrew Lampert, J. Hoberman, Brent Philips (Fales Library & Special Collections, NYU), and Bill Seery (Mercer Media).
Please note: this event takes place at the Anthology Film Archives, 32 Second Avenue, New York, NY 10003. For complete listings and information please visit the Anthology Film Archives website.
