For all ages

Put on your inventor’s hat and join Whitney Educators to get creative and come up with your own impossible inventions inspired by 2024 Biennial artist Pippa Garner.

Garner’s Inventor’s Office is filled with what she describes as “impossible inventions.” Explore the installation and discover these playful, imaginative objects that possess their own lives and stories, long after they've become obsolete. Some of these works also reflect on Garner’s journey of transition or “genderhacking,” which she began in the late 1980s. She wondered if the energy she put into modifying appliances could also be applied to the human body, thinking, “If I can work with a waffle iron, why not the body?”
