Open to teens

Join 2024 Whitney Biennial artist Sarah Hennies for a special Open Studio for Teens workshop. Hennies’s work Motor Tapes in the Biennial is a piece of music about memory and how the passage of time distorts and muddles our past experiences. It’s also concerned with how our brains serve as filing cabinets, preserving significant or traumatic memories and sometimes saving memories that seem insignificant and mundane with clarity and persistence. For Open Studio for Teens, Hennies will prepare a new version of her sound collage work Memory Box, interspersing musical and environmental sounds with recordings made by workshop participants telling stories about their memories related to sound. Hennies will take these recordings as they’re produced in real-time and assemble them into a new iteration of Memory Box that the artist will share during a listening session at the end of the workshop.
