The Kitchen, 512 W 19th Street

As an extension of her residency at the New York City Department of Sanitation ongoing since 1977, Mierle Laderman Ukeles will invite New York City sanitation workers that service the Kitchen and the Chelsea neighborhood to enjoy lunch inside the exhibition space. This performance work develops from her principle of “transfer and exchange,” whereby the sanitation workers who serve the public are themselves served in public. Attendees are invited to bring their own meal or snack and join the workers, sharing a table and engaging in conversation.

This event is organized in conjunction with Maintenance Required on view at The Kitchen. Please note this event does not take place at the Museum. Please consult individual calendar listings for details.
