Visual AIDS presents METAPHORS and THEIR DISTEMPER: An Evening of Poetry and Prose

Fri, May 29, 2015
6:30–8:30 pm

Floor Three, Susan and John Hess Family Theater

Artists and authors Gregg Bordowitz, Morgan Bassichis, Orlando Ferrand, Park McArthur, Stacy Szymaszek, and Frederick Weston perform readings considering diagnosis, dis-ease, coping, and wellness. HIV is a primary focus, yet the theme is inclusive of all ailments, predicaments, and their embodiments in writing.

The evening has been organized by Visual AIDS with Gregg Bordowitz and Pati Hertling, in conjunction with the inaugural publication of DUETS, a publication series that pairs artists, activists, writers, and thinkers in dialogues about their creative practices and current social issues around HIV/AIDS. In Duets: Stephen Andrews & Gregg Bordowitz in Conversation (2014), Gregg Bordowitz speaks to his longtime friend Stephen Andrews about painting, poetry, cosmology, and survival. Lynne Tillman pens the publication's foreword.

Visual AIDS is the only contemporary arts organization fully committed to HIV prevention and AIDS awareness through producing and presenting visual art projects, while assisting artists living with HIV/AIDS.

Admission is free. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
