Kara Walker

Wed, Oct 30, 2013
6:30–8 pm

Join us as Kara Walker signs her recent publication, Dust Jackets for the Niggerati. Refreshments will be served.

Kara Walker is internationally recognized for her incisive and disarming explorations of race, sexuality, and violence, often depicted through the lens of reconceived historical tropes. Widely acclaimed solo exhibitions of her work have been staged around the world, and, at the age of 28 in 1997, she was among the youngest individuals ever to have been awarded a MacArthur Fellowship.

Dust Jackets for the Niggerati documents a significant new body of work by the artist. This series of mostly large-scale graphite drawings and hand-printed texts on paper was described by critic Jerry Saltz as "a shot across America's bow." This book is fully illustrated, with beautiful and deeply textured reproductions of the complete series.
