Art critic and writer Jed Perl discusses his new book, Calder: The Conquest of Time: The Early Years: 1898–1940, with Alexander S. C. Rower, President of the Calder Foundation. Perl's book is the first ever biography of Alexander Calder, the great twentieth-century sculptor. Moving from New York’s Greenwich Village in the Roaring Twenties, to the Left Bank of Paris during the Depression, and then back to the United States, Perl shows why Calder was, and remains, a barrier breaker and an avant-garde artist with widespread appeal. The book, a decade in the making, is based on unprecedented access to the artist’s letters and papers and on scores of interviews.

Tickets are required ($10 adults, $8 members, students and seniors).
