Insider Series Members in the Curate Your Own Program

This talk with curatorial assistants Mia Curran and Sarah Humphreville will explore the process of organizing and installing exhibitions at the Whitney, focusing on the similarities and differences between permanent collection displays and loan-based exhibitions. Curran will discuss Human Interest: Portraits from the Whitney’s Collection. Drawn entirely from the Museum’s holdings, Human Interest includes roughly three hundred works by over two hundred artists and explores how artists have reinvented portraiture during the last one hundred and sixteen years. Humphreville will provide a preview of Stuart Davis: In Full Swing. The exhibition surveys the career of Davis, one of the preeminent figures of American modernism, and gathers works from private and public collections. The presentations will provide an overview of the process of creating each exhibition, offering an opportunity to learn about the various facets of curatorial work.

Open to Insider Series members. Please note: This program will also be offered next season. Become a member, or upgrade your membership by calling (212) 570-3641 or emailing memberinfo@whitney.org
