Floor One, The Whitney Shop

Celebrate the release of the publication, In Sunlight or in Shadow: Stories Inspired by the Paintings of Edward Hopper, with a special signing event and reception in the Whitney Shop.

This newly-commissioned anthology of seventeen superbly-crafted stories inspired by the paintings of Edward Hopper is edited by legendary American crime writer Lawrence Block and includes original stories by Stephen King, Joyce Carol Oates, Robert Olen Butler, Michael Connelly, Megan Abbott, Craig Ferguson, Nicholas Christopher, Jill D. Block, Joe R. Lansdale, Justin Scott, Kris Nelscott, Warren Moore, Jonathan Santlofer, Jeffery Deaver, Lee Child, Gail Levin, and Block himself. The result is a one-of-a-kind anthology beautifully produced as befits this collection of acclaimed authors, each story is illustrated with a quality full-color reproduction of the painting that inspired it.

Block is joined by several of the collection’s contributors during the evening, including Lee Child, Megan Abbott, Nicholas Christopher, Gail Levin, Jill Block and Justin Scott, to discuss Hopper’s influence on their writings and read from select stories. A light reception immediately follows this discussion.

Please note: This event has reached registration capacity. A limited number of standby tickets may be available at the door on a first-come, first-served basis. The standby line will open one hour prior to the program’s start time.
