El arte existe en relación a momentos sociales particulares. Tanto a través de la representación de una realidad contemporánea como en su potencia para desafiar narrativas culturales, el arte inspira respuestas emocionales y pensamientos críticos en una manera distinta a los métodos políticos tradicionales. A través de varias obras en la colección del Whitney, exploraremos los diferentes roles que ha jugado el arte en los Estados Unidos durante el siglo XX y el siglo XXI, abordando temas como la inmigración, la justicia económica, el sexismo y el racismo.
Camilo Godoy es un artista y educador radicado en Nueva York. Es candidato de maestría en arte en Columbia University y enseña en Recess y el Whitney Museum.
Art exists in relation to its particular social moment. Whether representing the current reality or leveraging its power to challenge cultural narratives, it can inspire emotional responses and critical thinking in a way distinct from traditional political methods. Through work in the Whitney’s collection, we will explore the different roles art has played in the United States during the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, addressing issues from immigration to economic justice to sexism and racism.
Camilo Godoy is an artist and educator based in New York. He is an MFA candidate at Columbia University and teaches at Recess and the Whitney Museum.
