ReelAbilities Film Festival Presents: Gabe

Floor Three, Susan and John Hess Family Theater

The Whitney is proud to participate in the 2016 ReelAbilities Film Festival, the first of its kind to present award-winning films by and about people with disabilities. Screenings take place at multiple venues throughout the New York metropolitan area, and each is followed by discussions that bring together the community to explore, discuss, embrace, and celebrate the diversity of our shared human experience.

Gabe (2015)
Directed by Luke Terrell (72 minutes, USA, documentary)
Gabe Weil is a twenty-seven year old born with the most severe form of muscular dystrophy. For his entire life, Gabe had been told he would be lucky to live past twenty-five. But recently, he learned he was misdiagnosed, and may live well into his fifties. Although this news was overwhelmingly positive, it presented a surprising obstacle. Gabe did not have any long-term goals. He was forced to rethink his life from scratch. This radical shift in consciousness propelled him to set new goals, continue overcoming obstacles, and manifest more dreams.
