My Turn: Everyday Monuments with Jean Shin

Fri, Feb 4, 2011
7 pm

Delightful and awe-inspiring, Charles LeDray's work also engages themes of identity, memory, subjectivity, and loss. In this unique hands-on workshop as part of the My Turn public programs series, artist Jean Shin opens up for visitors one of her own projects, Everyday Monuments, that explores similar themes through the exalted yet prosaic object of the trophy. Through manipulations of scale and the questioning of stereotypes, Shin transforms these worshipped statues into a new kind of monument. Join us as we explore her process, seen in tandem with LeDray's.

My Turn expands the definition of a museum by inviting a guest artist to interpret another artist's work. This public program series, held in conjunction with the exhibitions Paul Thek: Diver, A Retrospective, and Charles LeDray: workworkworkworkwork, was organized by Jean Shin.

This event is free with Museum admission, which is pay-what-wish on Fridays, 6–9 pm.
