Join Ephraim Asili for an evening of deep listening and light dancing to music from the artist’s personal vinyl record collection. This sonically-oriented session will explore themes from Asili’s film The Inheritance (2020), including history, ancestry, radical ideology, and love, as well as his ongoing interest in sampling, collage, music, and sound. As part of the experience, a selection of books and catalogues are available to read during the program.

Described by Asili as a “speculative re-enactment,” The Inheritance weaves together the political and social history of the Black liberation group MOVE, the Black Arts Movement, and the filmmaker’s own formative experiences as a member of a Black liberationist group, using the film to investigate what is required to uphold our freedoms. The film is currently on view in the exhibition Inheritance.
