Undercurrents: Experimental Ecosystems in Recent Art, the Whitney Independent Study Program’s 2010 exhibition, addresses issues of responsibly within the idea of ethical cohabitation-how to live together and how to be in the shared environment. Emily Roysdon's series of performances are organized as part of the exhibition.

Roysdon explores New York’s Christopher Street Piers, a site of social and political action for the gay rights movement since the 1970s. A series of spontaneous textual performances will take place at Christopher Street Piers on the weekends. These deliberately unspectacular performances engage with the oral history of the piers and social codes that regulate public space in the urban landscape. Performers will include a variety of artists that identify with, and partake in, the site’s past and present histories.
