Rooted uptown, People’s Theatre Project is a theatre and social justice organization dedicated to creating and producing original theatre by and for immigrants that celebrates hope, life, and resistance. Our professional artists, hailing from diverse backgrounds including the Dominican Republic, Chile, China, Colombia, Mexico, Greece, Iran, Nigeria, South Korea, and Uganda, draw from their unique experiences to create theatre that speaks to the immigrant journey, challenging stereotypes and amplifying underrepresented voices. People’s Theatre Project is a Whitney Education Community Partner.
Since 1985, Working Theater has been a pioneering force in off-Broadway theater, dedicated to amplifying the often overlooked stories of working people. With a robust commitment to accessibility, Working Theater spearheaded initiatives like sliding-scale ticketing, inviting audiences to engage with theater regardless of their socio-economic status. Through its active play commissioning and arts-in-education initiatives, Working Theater remains steadfast in its dedication to centering marginalized voices and fostering dialogue on social and economic justice.
