Open to Contemporaries and Contemporaries Patron Members

Join fellow Contemporaries in Brooklyn for an intimate visit to Ilana Savdie’s studio. That evening, the artist will be in conversation with Whitney curatorial staff Marcela Guerrero and Angelica Arbelaez, organizers of the exhibition Ilana Savdie: Radical Contractions, on view in the Whitney’s Lobby Gallery through November 5, 2023.

In her work, Savdie explores themes of performance, transgression, identity, and power through vibrant, large-scale paintings. Her canvases assemble fragments into finely detailed, fluid compositions that pulsate with flamboyant color. Abstracted forms conjoin, merge, and blend to create riotous excess. At their core, Savdie’s paintings aim to dismantle ideas of binary or fixed identity and embrace performance as a transformative tool.

Location and arrival instructions will be provided to registrants closer to the event date.
