Contemporaries are invited to a special viewing of 2017 Biennial artist Asad Raza’s Root sequence. Mother tongue, followed by a conversation between the artist and curatorial assistant Emily Guzman Sufrin. A forest comprised of twenty-six trees and their human caretakers, Raza’s environment gives visitors a parklike respite from the tasks of viewing, judgment, and critique that usually constitute the museum experience. During the discussion, Raza and Sufrin will explore ‘the dynamic between viewer and art object.’

7–7:45 pm: Viewing of Root sequence. Mother tongue
8–9 pm: Conversation
9–9:30 pm: Reception
