The Whitney’s new home in the Meatpacking District stands at the crossroads of Chelsea and Greenwich Village, the High Line and Hudson River Park. Architect Renzo Piano’s design respectfully responds to the building’s surroundings and the history of the neighborhood. At the same time, the building fully utilizes the expansive site to realize breathtaking, flexible gallery spaces. Constructing such a state-of-the-art facility on a unique site called for acumen and careful planning and coordination. Over the last four years since the Whitney broke ground in May 2011, the building’s structure and special features have taken shape. Learn more about the construction process during this talk with Larissa Gentile, the Whitney’s new building project manager.
