One adult helps a child with curly hair who is holding a marker, their mouth open in excitement or surprise. Behind them, other participants are also engaged in artmaking. On the wall, a large circular projection reads “FREE SECOND SUNDAYS.”

Open to all ages

Artists of all ages are invited to create their own six-sided self-portraits inspired by Women and Dog by Marisol, on view in Sixties Surreal! Come create your own self-portrait exploring the many sides to what makes you, YOU!

Celebrate Sixties Surreal, a bold new exhibition uniting more than 100 groundbreaking artists who brought imagination and mystery to a decade of big ideas and bigger change.

In Women and Dog, Marisol created four life-size painted wood figures, each one a self-portrait. One figure even includes a black-and-white photograph of the artist. Two others feature multiple faces, cast directly in plaster from Marisol’s own features. The multiple faces on two of the others were cast in plaster directly from the artist herself; and the small figure represents Marisol as a child. Each figure is wearing a fashionable outfit of the period, accessorized with found objects that include a real purse and hair bow.
