Artmaking From Home:
Textures of Memory

Experiment with ordinary materials in new and creative ways with these online artmaking events designed for all ages. Each project explores artworks from the Whitney’s collection and invites participants to consider the relationship between artmaking and our domestic spaces. All events in this series are live, thirty-minute sessions taught by a Whitney educator. 

Taking inspiration from Sari Dienes's ink rubbings of downtown Manhattan’s built environment of subway grates, pavement cracks, and maintenance-hole covers, this hands-on workshop uses collaged textures to explore touch, absence, and memory.

Materials: 

• Paper (thin enough to make rubbings)
• A large piece of paper to mount everything onto
• Cardboard
• Charcoal, pencils, colored pencils, or pastels
• Styrofoam
• Textured materials from around your house
• Scissors
• Glue
