Floor 3, Artspace

Open to all ages

Artists of all ages are invited to contribute to a community riverscape inspired by Marina Zurkow’s multimedia artwork River is a Circle.

Marina Zurkow creates art that explores the complex relationships between people and the natural world. Using animation, science, and technology, she examines how human activity affects plants, animals, and ecosystems. Her work invites us to reflect deeply on our impact on the world around us.

Head up to the Floor 5 terrace to experience River is a Circle, a software-driven animation that presents a view of the Hudson River both above and below the waterline. The scene is made of hand-drawn images and never plays the same way twice. Real-time data from New York City weather stations determines how the elements appear, creating an ever-changing riverscape.

After viewing the artwork, add your drawing to a collaborative mural inspired by River is a Circle. Watch the mural evolve throughout the day and decide what you'd like to contribute—something you might really find in or around the river, or something entirely imagined. Together, we’ll build a living artwork that reflects how we see, experience, and dream about river life.
