All Ages Artmaking: Botanical Frottage

An abstract, horizontal sculpture made of cast aluminum forms resembling branches, bones, and organic fragments arranged along a low base. Twisting and intersecting elements create an open, skeletal structure, with a tall upright form on the left and a rounded, bulb-like shape on the right. The silvery surface has a rough, textured finish, emphasizing the natural origins of the forms. The composition suggests growth, movement, and the interconnected patterns of living systems.

Open to all ages

Artists of all ages are invited to make their own collection of botanical rubbings inspired by Biennial artist, Sarah M. Rodriguez.

Sarah M. Rodriguez collects natural objects, casts them in aluminum using sand as a mold, and then welds those casts together as sculpture. She often begins with materials that suggest temporality, like a seed pod that could grow over time. The artist also works as an animal trainer, and her abstract compositional choices are partly inspired by patterns of non-human behavior.
