Floor Five, Kaufman Gallery
This screening of director Billy Woodberry's recently completed feature-length documentary focuses on jazz-inspired Beat poet Bob Kaufman, who Cecil Taylor credits with transforming his conception of language and textual rhythm. Tracing the author’s origins in New Orleans, his introduction to the San Francisco Beats, and his integration to the jazz and poetry scene of 1960s New York, this film offers a compelling portrait of an under-represented African-American cultural figure.
