Join us for an evening of conversation with artist Amy Sherald, writer and cultural commentator Touré, curator Rujeko Hockley, and artist and activist Arewà Basit on Amy Sherald: American Sublime. The panel will discuss Sherald’s practice and her unique approach to representing Blackness through depictions of everyday Black Americans.

Touré is an author and journalist based in Brooklyn. He has published six books including I Would Die 4 U: Why Prince Became An Icon and Who’s Afraid of Post-Blackness: A Look At What It Means To Be Black Now, and he hosts the podcast Touré Show. He loves using media to help challenge people’s perception of themselves and of the world.

Arewà Basit is a non-binary, trans-femme, Brooklyn-based artist, actor, singer/songwriter, and co-founder of LEGACY, a Black Queer Production Collective. Basit made their television debut in MTV’s first queer dating show, Are You The One. Through their artistry, Basit empowers all Black folks and especially Black trans, and femme folks. Their debut single “Fluid,” serves as a personal ode, love letter, and celebration of gender and sexual fluidity.
