In his recent project Früchte des Vertrauens (Fruits of Confidence), German filmmaker Alexander Kluge deals with the collateral damage of the economic crisis. Not only have material values been destroyed, but so too has our belief in both confidence and trust. Sometimes cynical and ironic, sometimes even pedagogical, Kluge deconstructs the concept of confidence, and examines how it cannot be purchased with money. Though important for the functioning of our society, it required a financial and economic crisis to remind us of its value.

With an introduction by Andrew Kliman, professor of economics at Pace University and a contributor to Marxist-Humanist Initiative’s online publication, With Sober Senses.
