Join us for a day of drumming, singing, dancing, conversation, and sharing stories at this Social Gathering presented by the Whitney in collaboration with the American Indian Community House (AICH).
AICH has hosted Socials as integral community-building events since its founding in 1969. Akin to a small powwow, the Social is an extension of a long-standing lifeway among Indigenous people that brings relations and friends from different tribal nations together. AICH Socials solidify bonds among Indigenous people living in the New York City area who are often far from their original homelands while also welcoming new friendships with guests from diverse communities. In this spirit, AICH has partnered with many organizations and institutions throughout its history to make a truly inclusive experience.
Drumming
Drum groups will provide music for the afternoon.
Traditional Dancing
Attendees will be encouraged to dance and wear regalia to highlight the many different styles of dancing and dress.
During this special day, attendees are invited to explore the Whitney Museum galleries on their own, including exploring the Whitney Biennial 2026.
American Indian Community House is a Whitney Education Community Partner.
