For kids ages 5–10
Welcome to After School Art Club, a free weekly online program with Whitney educators! Kids ages 5 to 10 are invited to experiment and make art with at-home art materials. Tell a friend and join the club!
This week’s activity is inspired by Lenore Tawney. We will learn how Tawney created Four Petaled Flower II using a technique she developed herself called “open warp,” which left an open space in the center of this woven artwork. Then we will make our own looms with materials we have at home and weave our own tiny tapestries!
Materials:
- Cardboard
- Scissors
- Tape
- Colorful yarn or thin strips of cloth
- Big plastic needle or small piece of stiff wire
