Leaders
2022-2023
YI Leaders is a year-long paid program for eleventh- and twelfth-grade students who act as ambassadors to their community by organizing events for NYC teens and assisting with family programs. This year, YI Leaders worked with Whitney Education staff to plan HallowTeen Night with collection artist Corin Hewitt, led object tours in the exhibition Edward Hopper’s New York for the YI 25th Reunion Celebration, and hosted a session during Teen Summit: Transforming the Future alongside artist Miguel Luciano. They also facilitated Whitney Teens x Artists with artists Meriem Bennani and Orian Barki in January and with Jaune Quick-to-See Smith in May, led a Teen Night inspired by the exhibition no existe un mundo poshuracán: Puerto Rican Art in the Wake of Hurricane Maria in collaboration with artist Danielle De Jesus, and collaborated with youth from The Door, The Center, and Haus of Us to plan Queer Teen Night, an event that celebrates the LGBTQ+ community.
