An Opportunistic Road Trip
Mar 1, 2010

Hello! It’s your favorite Whitney blogger: Cesar! I recently returned from a college tour with the Opportunity Network, an organization that grants high school students, like myself, access to career opportunities and professional and academic networks. The college trip was great. I learned so much and had a lot of fun! I made new friends and became closer to my fellow Opportunity Network buddies. We visited Union College, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), Williams College, Trinity College, Wesleyan University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Brown University, and Yale University.

Our first and second stops were Union College and RPI. I must say, they were both really interesting and offered great programs for majors, but they weren’t for me. The town bordering Union seemed really dull and uninteresting to a city person like me. And I knew I would not be able to get used to life at RPI overall.

Our next stops were two liberal arts schools: Williams College and Trinity College. They jumped into my top five. Williams is such a great school with great food and offers interesting programs. I know that YI Leader and fellow Opportunity Network buddy, Shaniece, would agree that Williams is awesome. Trinity has a “design your own major program,” which is really cool. They also offer engineering programs, which definitely suits my interests because I would like to pursue architecture and civil engineering. As your favorite blogger, I have a lot to say! So stay tuned for my next post, where we finish up the college road trip with visits to Wesleyan, MIT, Brown, and Yale. Until next time!
