On July 20, YI Arts Careers visited the Alice Austen House in Staten Island. We met with Executive Director, Janice Monger and Director of Education, Ann Marie McDonnell who talked to us about their jobs and gave us some history on the Alice Austen House and its namesake. Alice Austen was born in 1865 to a wealthy New York family. She was able to pursue photography as a hobby and later became known for her “behind the scenes" photographs of the American woman. She lived on Staten Island with her partner, Gertrude Tate. Our visit to Alice Austen House was very fun and informative—definitely worth the journey!
