Colleges & Universities
The Whitney offers resources and programs for College and University students and instructors. Here you will find materials and programs relevant to undergraduates, graduate students, and advanced researchers too.
Bring a Class
Instructors can request a lecturer badge or opt to work one-on-one with one of our Teaching Fellows to develop a tour that engages with their course content.
Joan Tisch Teaching Fellows
The Joan Tisch Teaching Fellows Program offers graduate students pursuing advanced degrees in art history and related fields the unique opportunity to work directly with the Whitney Museum’s collection and audiences.
Research Resources
As part of the Whitney's mission to support American art and artists, the Museum provides access to a distinctive collection of research materials including works on paper, primary archival resources, as well as books and serials.
Independent Study Program
The Independent Study Program at the Whitney provides a setting where students pursuing art practice, curatorial work, art historical scholarship, and critical writing engage in ongoing discussions and debates that examine the historical, social, and intellectual conditions of artistic production. Each academic year twenty-five students are selected to participate.
Library & Study Center
The Whitney Library is a comprehensive research collection in the field of twentieth-century and contemporary American art. And the Study Center is devoted to the storage, research, and display of the Whitney's collection of works on paper, which includes over 19,000 prints, drawings, and photographs.
The Ethics of Looking
After seeing an exhibition at the Whitney, explore it further by joining one of the Whitney's Teaching Fellows for an open discussion about the politics and ethics of representation. The Whitney is committed to fostering dialogue and debate in these monthly sessions. Check the calendar for upcoming sessions.
