Tom Otterness
November 15, 2008
Tom Otterness’s public sculptures and installations can be seen throughout New York City, including the subway stop at 14th Street and Eighth Avenue. Otterness shares Alexander calder’s interest in sculpture and performance by creating playful and sometimes humorous narratives with his own work. The artist led kids and parents in a gallery tour and art-making activity influenced by his own process as well as the exhibition Alexander calder: The Paris Years, 1926-1933. Otterness shared some of his works in progress with families, bringing in a plaster mold and showing images of his finished work. Families were asked to create wire sculpture portrait busts inspired by Alexander calder.
