At Open Studio on Saturday, January 30, over 300 kids and parents joined Family Programs staff in the Laurie M. Tisch Education Center to create a large-scale collaborative installation. The installation was inspired by the vivid colors, gestural forms, and scale of Frank Stella’s artwork, on view in the exhibition Frank Stella: A Retrospective. During the afternoon, the work-in-progress grew to a huge, exuberant environment.

Billie Rae Vinson, Coordinator of Family Programs remarked: “It was great to see families get excited about Stella’s work and create an installation that interacted with the theater space through its size and shape. Nothing was holding them back creatively, and kids made art that was larger than themselves! Families worked together for hours and were inspired by what other people were making.”
