On October 31, New York City teens celebrated Halloween at the Whitney Museum. The event was planned and organized by high school students participating in the Whitney’s teen program, Youth Insights Leaders. Activities included tarot card and astrology readings and an Instagram scavenger hunt in the galleries. Teens were asked to grab a partner and prompted to search for artworks, such as finding their “reflection in the castle windows” or picking an artwork “that would make the best Halloween costume.” They took pictures with their smartphones and posted them to #whitneyteens.

In the Laurie M.Tisch Education Center, teens made Halloween masks and costumes then modeled them on a catwalk. They also participated in a costume contest for the “most likely to be shown at the Whitney, the most meme-worthy, the best duo, and the fiercest walk.” These activities were followed by a lively dance party in the Hess Family Theater.
