Explore the Whitney’s collection or special exhibitions virtually with a highly skilled museum educator trained to provide vivid, detailed verbal description of the works on display. In-person verbal description tours also include experiencing a selection of objects through touch. Whitney Descriptions resources include the mobile guide with sound recordings of verbal descriptions of artworks, audio, and film, as well as some written descriptions.

These free, 90-minute tours take place when the galleries are closed to the general public or on Zoom. If you can’t make one of our scheduled tours, please contact accessfeedback@whitney.org to schedule an individual tour. Manual wheelchairs, stools, and assistive listening devices are available for all touch programs.

Written verbal descriptions (also called written image descriptions) are carefully thought-out explanations of visual artworks. The text can be read by a screen reader or refreshable braille display. The Whitney's written verbal descriptions can be accessed at the Museum or at home.
