The Vlog Project
Hi, Welcome to The Whitney Museum of American Art. I am Christine Kim, CK for short, museum educator and artist. I am here at the museum located in New York City on the Upper East Side at the intersection of East 75th Street and Madison Avenue.
The museum displays contemporary art typically by living artists. The museum is considered the artist's museum. We have over 18, 000 pieces of work in our collection, spanning the 20th Century up to the present. There is a variety of art in different disciplines such as photography, architecture, sculpture, painting, drawing, sound, and performance.
We are very excited about this vlog project. The vlog will include information on special exhibitions, interviews with artists, and different pieces from our permanent collection. If you would like additional information regarding programs and events here at the Museum, take a look at our website at www.whitney.org. If you would like to sign up for our monthly email notifications regarding museum events, email us at email@example.com.
Whitney Video Blogs (vlogs) are original short videos featuring Deaf museum educators communicating in American Sign Language (ASL). The vlogs focus on topics in contemporary art or exhibitions on view at the Museum. Each vlog is produced by an integrated team consisting of a director/editor and Whitney educators who are Deaf, working with a cinematographer and interpretive media and education specialists who are hearing.
The goal of these vlogs is to increase cultural opportunities for Deaf and hard of hearing audiences and create a communications laboratory to expand the ASL vocabulary of contemporary art terms. We hope that these videos can serve as a model for other institutions to create original interpretive content that meets the learning needs of multiple audiences and engages visitors with disabilities in a collaborative creative process, highlighting the unique perspectives they bring to the cultural field.
