Hopper on Paper | Session 1
Nov 3, 2022
This course offers an in-depth exploration of Edward Hopper’s New York through a unique, behind-the-scenes look at artworks from the Whitney’s extensive holdings by the artist. Closely examining prints, watercolors, and drawings in the Whitney’s Sondra Gilman Study Center, we will consider how Hopper created his unique vision of the city that is at once carefully observed and wrought from memory and his imagination. In each session, detailed attention is given to the artist’s stylistic, formal, and technical choices, as well as the historical context in which the works were created.
This session is led by Steven and Ann Ames Curator of Drawings and Prints Kim Conaty and features artist Kambui Olujimi with introductions by Senior Curatorial Assistant Melinda Lang.
