As part of his work for the 2017 Biennial, Root sequence. Mother tongue (2017), Asad Raza has invited a series of guests to occupy the installation with choreographic, musical, and intellectual events for weekend visitors to the museum. Andros Zins-Browne: Already Unmade
Already Unmade (2016) is a performance conceived by choreographer Andros Zins-Browne. It has been presented as a solo durational performance (Yvonne Lambert Gallery, April 24th, 2016, Berlin), a group exhibition (Repetition, Villa Empain/ Boghossian Foundation, May 12-August 21st, 2016, Brussels), and as a workshop for young professional dancers (Impulstanz Festival, July 24-29, 2016, Vienna). In it, performers revisit their own personal history of choreography, altering it through its repetition, practicing a performance of 'unmaking' rather than restaging pre-existing dances. By reversing the order in which choreography is normally created, Already Unmade begins with finished, 'choreographic objects' and subjects them to an ensuing process where they begin to unravel.
Andros Zins-Browne (b. 1981, New York) is an American choreographer who lives and works in Brussels. His work consists of "dance performances and hybrid environments at the intersection between installation, performance and conceptual dance, performed by a mix of professional dancers and amateurs. They explore the way in which the human body, movement and matter can interact until a certain melting point is reached and the diverse media appear to take on each other's properties." Aside from his performances as a dancer with Jonathan Burrows, Mette Ingvartsen, Tino Sehgal, and Maria Hassabi, Zins-Browne’s own creations have been presented across Europe including the Centre Pompidou in Paris, Dance Umbrella in London, HAU in Berlin, PACT Zollverein in Essen, MDT in Stockholm, Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, Next Festival, Kortrijk, De Singel in Antwerp, Kaaitheater in Brussels and the Theater Festival Impulse, Düsseldorf where he received the Goethe Institute Award for The Host. Since 2014, he is represented by Hiros, an artist management company in Brussels. In 2013 he founded his own association, The Great Indoors.
