Giotto di Bondone (jot-o dee bone-done-ay), c. 1266-c. 1337

From Florence, Italy, Giotto is best known for painting Biblical stories, using several scenes to tell the complete story. He often worked in fresco, a technique in which the artist paints directly into wet plaster on the wall. Fresco yields a bright, though limited, palette of colors.
