Free Second Sundays and Open Studio

This fall, and every season, families are invited to connect through art and creativity at the Whitney. Join us on Free Second Sundays for complimentary admission and all ages artmaking. On select Saturdays experience Open Studio, and discover the Museum’s collection together through hands-on artmaking inspired by works on view.
Sixties Surreal
Now On View
Bring the whole family to experience Sixties Surreal. Featuring more than 100 artists—from Andy Warhol to Yayoi Kusama—the exhibition captures a decade of imagination and bold ideas, sparking wonder, curiosity, and conversation for kids and adults. Whitney Kids Art Challenge: Marisol
Alexander Calder, Mr. Loyal, Ringmaster, Red Fabric, and Ring from Calder's Circus, 1926-31. Wire, cloth, leather, cardboard, cork, paper, rhinestones, fabric, and painted wood, dimensions variable. Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; purchase with funds from a public fundraising campaign in May 1982. One half of the funds were contributed by the Robert Wood Johnson Jr. Charitable Trust. Additional major donations were given by The Lauder Foundation; the Robert Lehman Foundation, Inc.; the Howard and Jean Lipman Foundation, Inc.; an anonymous donor; The T.M. Evans Foundation, Inc.; MacAndrews & Forbes Group, Incorporated; the De Witt Wallace Fund, Incorporated; Martin and Agneta Gruss; Anne Phillips; Mr. and Mrs. Laurance S. Calder’s Circus
Coming Soon
This fall, the Whitney presents High Wire: Calder’s Circus at 100, celebrating the centennial of Alexander Calder’s dynamic and imaginative Circus (1926–31). Shown alongside other works, this exhibition reveals how Calder blended avant-garde innovation with the wonder of the big top. Families are invited to discover the magic, movement, and surprise of Calder’s miniature world with family programs to come.
