Performance As Sculpture / Sculpture As Performance
Far more than static objects, sculpture today often incorporates movement, sound, video, and even performance. This four-week course offers participants a chance to consider the ways contemporary artists are pushing the boundaries of one of the oldest artistic disciplines, and reworking its most essential subject—the human figure—by using strategies borrowed from the time-based medium of performance.
Crash Courses on Contemporary Art: Jason Moran
This single-session course offers an in-depth look at the intersections of jazz history and visual art. Using the exhibition Jason Moran as a point of departure, this course examines how Moran’s conceptual art practice, musical performances, and cross-discipline collaborations materialize the sonic and cultural tensions that define jazz.
How to Look
Develop your powers of attentiveness by learning simple tools for observing and describing works of art. Course participants will have special access to the Museum galleries after hours.
