Histories of the Digital Now

Feb 21, 2019

Organized in conjunction with the Whitney's  exhibition Programmed: Rules, Codes, and Choreographies in Art, 1965–2018, this panel discussion considers histories of technological art that help us to understand our present moment. Artists Jonah Brucker-Cohen, Katherine Moriwaki, and Tamiko Thiel, whose works are on view in the exhibition, and media historian and theorist Erkki Huhtamo explore the evolution of virtual and algorithmic practices, and the role that art can play in our increasingly coded world. The discussion is moderated by Christiane Paul, Adjunct Curator of Digital Art and co-curator of Programmed.

This event is co-organized by the Whitney Museum of American Art and the School of Media Studies at The New School.
