Whitney Contemporaries are invited to visit the Long Island City studio of 2017 Biennial artist Carrie Moyer (b. 1960). Moyer's vibrant paintings unabashedly embrace visual pleasure, juxtaposing luminous, watery veils of paint in bright hues, often mixed with glitter, with precisely outlined areas of flat color. Elements in Moyer's recent paintings suggest architecture at times, or landscape and the body at others.
Moyer is an artist, writer, teacher, and co-founder of one of the first queer interventionist public art projects, Dyke Action Machine!, which was active in New York from 1991–2008. She is the recipient of grants from the Guggenheim Foundation, and Joan Mitchell Foundation, and is a Professor of Art and the Director of the Graduate Program at Hunter College (CUNY). She previously taught at RISD, Yale, Rutgers, Pratt, and the Cooper Union.
