Social practice artist Carmen Papalia makes participatory projects related to public space, the art institution, and visual culture. On Friday, June 7th, Papalia will organize conceptual gallery tours inviting visitors to close their eyes and experience the non-visual elements of the Museum, guided by a member of the Whitney's Education Department. The guides will describe art objects, architectural details, and other museum visitors, providing uniquely vivid and subjective access to the Museum through multisensory experience. As Papalia writes, "To see the museum without sight is to rediscover it." Free, one-on-one guided tours will begin in the Whitney lobby.
This event is free with Museum admission. No registration is required.
The Museum building is accessible and has elevator access to all floors. Service animals are welcome. Learn more about access services and amenities.
