Make wire sculptures

a. Review & discuss Calder’s Circus, 1926-31. Watch videos of Calder performing his circus here Ask students to carefully observe how Calder makes the circus characters move.

b. Ask your students to create their own wire sculptures. Have them consider how they can make parts move, rock, or swing, by bending, curling, twisting, and hooking the wire.
