nJoin us for a free tour in American Sign Language of&nbsp\;Sinister Pop\,
without voice interpretation. The tour begins at 7 pm\, with a free pre-t
our reception from 6&ndash\;7 pm.\nSinister Pop&nbsp\;presents an inventive
take on the Museum&rsquo\;s rich and diverse holdings of Pop art from the
movement&rsquo\;s inception in the early 1960s through its aftershocks a de
cade later. Although Pop art often calls to mind a celebration of postwar c
onsumer culture\, this exhibition focuses on Pop&rsquo\;s darker side\, as
it distorts and critiques the American dream. Themes of exaggerated consump
tion\, film noir and the depiction of women in art\, the dystopic American
landscape\, and the intersection of popular culture and politics\, are expl
ored through works by acknowledged masters such as Jasper Johns\, Claes Old
enburg\, Ed Ruscha\, and Andy Warhol\, as well as by many artists not tradi
tionally associated with Pop whose art may be understood within its wider f
ield of reference. These include William Eggleston\, Peter Saul\, Christina
Ramberg\, and Vija Celmins\, among others.\nPlease note: we regret that c
omplimentary tickets will no longer be available for ASL students. Museum
staff/interpreters will not be able to sign student assignments.\nAdmissio
n to tour and reception is free. Registration is required\; RSVP to asl_to
urs@whitney.org. Please bypass the admissions line and pick up your ticket
s at the check-in location in the Museum lobby.\n\nRelated exhibitions: Si
