Richard Estes paints in a style known as
Photo-Realism, creating highly focused images in vivid colors so that they look as sharp and detailed as photographs. He achieves this appearance in part by working from multiple photographs that he has taken. Estes does not want to copy the photographs exactly; instead, he combines different views and objects from each photograph into a single
composition. Through this process, Estes can include greater detail than the camera or the human eye can see.
