Narrator: The artist Marisol Escobar likes to make things look different. For this piece, each face—except the dog—shows a different picture or portrait of the artist herself. She made this sculpture out of wood, and added some real objects. Marisol used a photograph of herself for the woman wearing a pink blouse and green skirt. The women to either side of her have many faces. Marisol said:
Marisol: They’re a casting of my face. It’s plaster. They always come out different . But this is myself as a child, the small one.
There’s no end to gluing and cutting and sanding. (laughs)
Narrator: How many of Marisol’s faces can you find? See if all the expressions on the faces look the same or different. * Perhaps they show the artist in different moods.
Do you notice anything about the dog’s head? Well, it’s real, and it’s been stuffed, like the animals you might see at a museum of natural history. Look at the dog’s ears. Maybe he just heard something.
