Lorna Simpson often puts carefully chosen pictures and words together to question what people understand about African American history and experience and to explore how people interpret photographs and words when they see them together. In 2 Tracks, a young black woman with short hair faces away from the camera, so it is hard to tell very much about her. The two braids on either side may or may not belong to her.
